My PONPONPON Cosplay! ♡

Hello! I think that it's time for a personal post, huh? ♡

This post is about my homemade cosplay of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's PONPONPON! I will tell you how I made it, the difficulty, where to get one if you don't like to or can't sew and my experiences I've had while wearing it!

It all started one day on YouTube when I was watching Koda Kumi's music video for her song "Superstar" when suddenly I noticed something really cute on the right side of the screen in "recommended for you!" It was "PONPONPON!" I watched it, and fell in love! ^_____^
Ever since that day, I've lived by: "Everyday PON!"

Eventually, after becoming a Kyary fan, I'd have search Google and the internet for pictures of her that I liked, but not only did I find gorgeous photos of her, but of other Kyary fans who were cosplaying as her! I thought it was so cool! I wanted to be like them! I wanted to cosplay my idol! And so, I did!

My friends had planned to attend an Anime Festival in the city of Melbourne, called "Manifest!" So, I decided to go with them! AND to enter a competition whilst there!

Before I could even start planning for my actual cosplay, I made a virtual one on Stardoll!

Which is an online paper doll website! XD

I started planning my cosplay in May 2012! Even though the festival wasn't even until August! I bought my Hot Pink Doc Martens from the Doc Marten website for $120 with $50 shipping! (You can find Doc Marten look-a-likes for about $50 on eBay, including shipping!) But I didn't start sewing or anything until July!

I bought everything (except the shoes, socks, gloves and tube)  from Spotlight! I purchased:

For the costume~
- Pink stretch material (About 1.5m - Top)
- Orange stretch material (About 1.5m - Top)
- White cotton fabric (1.5m - For the puffy sleeves)
- Yellow cotton fabric (About 2m - I used this for both the pants and bow)
- Pink cotton fabric (Not even a metre, I only used it for the bow)
- Transfer paper (For the eyeballs on the shorts and gloves and glasses for the top)
- Pink ribbon (For the corset type thing on the front of the top)
- Yellow medium sized "pompoms' (For attaching to the ends of the pink ribbon on the top)
- White lace (To attach to the socks)
- Elastic (I didn't buy any myself; I already had a whole bunch at home - for waist, legs, arms)
( Remember, in regards to amounts of fabric, I am a small person! These are for me!)
For the Prop (Microphone)~
- A long cardboard tube (About 1.5m? I was lucky! I found one in the laundry cupboard)
- Red sequin material (1m - For the stick part and stripes of the mic part)
- Silver sequin material (1m - For the stick part and the mic part)
- Polystyrene ball (about 4.5cm in diameter - For the ball of the mic)
- Yellow feathers (For the end of the mic part)
- Pipe-cleaners (RED, GOLD & WHITE are most needed, other colours are for decorations~
- Yellow medium sized pompoms (I listed them before but you need this for the end of the mic)
- Glue, tape, staples, whatever works best for you!
(Hot glue from the gun works best, I used tape.. -_-)

Okay! Let's begin!

The Top! ♡

Step 1: Create the basic singlet style top out of the pink stretch material.

Step 2: Sew on the orange strips; 4 on the front, 3 on the back!

Step 3: HEM EVERY EDGE! WAIST, COLLAR AND SLEEVES! It'll make it look neat. n.n

Step 4: Sew on the corset/hot pink ribbon! Then once it's on, attach the yellow pompoms on the ends!

Step 5: Create the puffy sleeves! You can find out how to do this via YouTube; don't forget to hem the ends and also put elastic through! So it sits firmly and neatly on your arm!

Step 6:  Transfer the glasses on! Orange glasses on pink; yellow on orange!

Here's a template for the glasses:

Step 7 (Optional): Put a zip in the back! I didn't do this, but I wish I had!

The Shorts! ♡

Step 1: Create the basic yellow puffy shorts! You can find out how to on YouTube, use a template or, as I did, use a pair of my dads shorts as a template because they are so large and puffy!

Step 2: Put elastic in the waist and legs! And hem! (Basically putting elastic in does it anyway~)

Step 3: Transfer the eyeballs onto it! I made my eyeballs on paint, but other cosplayer have used photoshop! Which looks better! n.n

Step 4 (Only if you put in a zip on the top): Attach the short to the top!

The Bows! ♡

Step 1: Create a rectangle that is folded and sewn together so it's using to layers of the fabric and make sure all the sides are sewn together. If you sew three sides together, then turn it inside out to hide stitching, it'll look alot nicer! Do this with the pink and yellow fabrics so you finish with one yellow rectangle and one pink rectangle!

Step 2: Create a square shaped ring that then slides tightly to the centre of the rectangle!

I didn't explain this bow making very well! You better look at YouTube! >.<

As for the socks, just loosely wrap the lace around in so that it's layered!

You can buy plain white gloves also and transfer the eyes on easily! n.n

As for the microphone, I'll update this post when I get a chance with photos on how to do it!

This is how my cosplay finished out looking:

I still want to redo it because I'm not 100% happy with it yet! But, I have good memories with this cosplay that keep me loving it, let me share some with you! n.n - ♡

♡ Here are photos of when I went to Manifest! ♡

As soon as I walked in the door of the main building, the posing and photo taking begun in minutes!

I entered my first competition on my first day of Manifest!

The competition I entered was called FrUiTs! I didn't win anything, but I made a lot of new friends!
Like Daryl (In top hat left of me), Tim (Red next to me on right), Alana (In 6%DokiDoki gear next to Tim), Katt (Mario Lolita style! Hehe, next to Alana) Magdalen (On the right in the front row) and Lisa! (In front of Alana) Tim won best male, Katt won best female, Lisa one most technical outfit, the girl in between Lisa and Magdalen won people's choice and the boy next to Katt named "Bunny Hiku" won best newcomer! Everyone was so friendly! Winning wasn't necessary! It was fun regardless!

Here are some pictures of me posing with people and posing myself! ♡

This is my friend Josh dressed as Li! As soon as I saw him,

I was like "OMG! IT'S LI!" So we got photos! n.n

Here is a photo of the retweet I got from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu herself! o(^O^)o I tweeted a photo from Manifest to show her my cosplay, and she responded! Saying it was "K A W A I I ! " ^3^~♡

This is the photo I sent to her! ^3^
